Be Encouraged by the “In”

Look past the craziness, or the oppressive blandness–the apparent lack of life–and remember to be encouraged by what you’re “in” and what’s “in you.”

Philippians 1:3-11

I thank my God
in all my remembrance of you,
always offering prayer with joy
in my every prayer for you all,
in view of your participation
in the gospel from the first day until now.
For I am confident of this very thing,
that He who began a good work
in you
will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.
For it is only right for me to feel this way about you all,
because I have you
in my heart,
since both
in my imprisonment
and
in the defense and confirmation of the gospel,
you all are partakers of grace with me.
For God is my witness,
how I long for you all with the affection of Christ Jesus.

And this I pray,
that your love may abound still more and more
in real knowledge and all discernment,
so that you may approve the things that are excellent,
in order to be sincere and blameless until the day of Christ;
having been filled with the fruit of righteousness
which comes through Jesus Christ,
to the glory and praise of God.

Prayer

Lord God,

Thank You that we are remembered. You think of us and You prompt others to as well. Let us be a family that is remembered and prayed for in joy because of how we participate in the gospelWe’re participants in the story. Make our friends and mentors excited to intercede for us because You have begun a good work in us. It is happening! You didn’t begin it and then leave us on the shelf. No. You have initiated a work in us and You will perfect it, and it will be good!

May we be a support to those who face persecution and imprisonment for Your gospel. Teach us to carry those people in our hearts. Pour out Your grace upon us all.

May our love abound in real knowledge and discernment so we can approve Your excellent gospel when we see it in action and may we be encouraged to remain sincere in our faith and blameless in our walk until You return. Fill us with Your righteousness, Lord Jesus, for the Father’s glory.

Amen
