God is not Superman!
Superman, although fast, cannot be everywhere at once. God is everywhere, all the time. Superman, though strong, has weaknesses. God is all powerful and therefore has no weakness. Superman loves one human more than all the others. God is no respecter of persons. He loves us all equally. The Bible says that there is no partiality with God.(Romans 2:11)
Superman doesn’t always tell the truth, or allows for deception to cover up his identity. God is not hiding Himself. He has made his presence known in His creation. The Bible says, “since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities-His eternal power and divine nature-have been seen.” God will not lie. All God’s words are true.(Romans 1:20)
Superman doesn’t seem to have a plan in the fight against evil. He responds to what the villains initiate. God had a plan and accomplished His plan.
‘But wait,’ you say, ‘if God is everywhere, all the time, is all powerful, without weakness, loves us all the same and wants to make himself known, then—
Why doesn’t He do something about the sex trade of little girls?
Why doesn’t He do something about starving people?
Why doesn’t He end war?
Doesn’t God care? What’s God’s problem? Where is He?
Where is God??!!!’
Well, hang on, what about you?
If war is wrong, what are you doing to end it?
If people are dying of hunger, how are you feeding them?
If raping little girls for coins is wrong, what are you doing to end that situation?
You see, we want to take a mess that we as humans have made and then point our finger and shout at God about why He hasn’t cleaned it up. It’s like saying,
‘God, we are killing each other in so many ways and if You don’t make us stop it then it’s all Your fault!! You must not exist because if You had a shred of compassion You’d do something!!!’
But God did do something.
The Bible says, “God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him.”(John 3:16,17)
God sent His Son, Jesus Christ, who died on our behalf, paying the death penalty for all our wrongs past, present, and future. “God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”(Romans 5:8)
And then Jesus rose again, starting a whole new way in which God would commune with humans. Now, to absolutely anyone who will accept that God’s plan through Christ works, God will come and dwell inside you. Jesus said, “In that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you.”(John 14:20)
And God will teach you to love Him and to want to serve Him. And you will find yourself surrendering your life to Him. And then God will begin to use you. He’ll call you His child—a humble child, not a superhero. God’s children are called peacemakers, not warmongers.
You’ll begin to fast and pray and you’ll find that life is more than food and drink and clothes. And you’ll be willing to radically change your spending habits, your hairstyles, just so you can give money to feed the hungry.
Or it’ll be your time. Maybe you’ll go. Maybe you’ll start a rescue program for these little girls, find them food, clothing, shelter and an education. Jesus said, “whatever you did for one of the least of these…you did for Me.” Maybe you’ll even adopt some yourself.(Romans 8:14-16, Matt 5:9, Matt 6:25-34, Matt 25:40)
‘Wait a minute,’ you say, ‘that’ll cost me my life.’
Jesus said that to follow Him would be to deny ourselves, consider ownership to our lives as over, and to surrender to God’s will. Jesus said, “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me. For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it; but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it. For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?”(Matt 16:24)
We want a fixed planet, a cleaned up mess, but when someone hands us a mop, we walk away.
Don’t walk away. God is calling you. Become His child today.
